THE BIBLE APPLIED TO LIFE AND LIVING — THE CONSTITUTION
Constitution Week is celebrated annually during the week of September 17-23 to commemorate that document’s history and importance, and to bring attention to how it serves still today. In 1955, the Daughters of the American Revolution petitioned Congress to set aside September 17-23 annually to be dedicated for the observance of Constitution Week. The resolution was later adopted by the U.S. Congress and signed into law on August 2, 1956, by President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
Comment: Many present-day Americans lack knowledge about our nation’s history and that lack causes people to suffer. (Hosea 4:6 NKJV)
Did you know that 33%+ of the U.S. Constitution contains biblical citations?
- Ps 133:1 – Unity in union. This is the greatest principle ascribed to Lincoln’s era – he knew he had to keep the union as one whole and complete nation not divided in two. Unity is internal and causative to that which is external called union. Just like this church – we agree on and embrace the same principles of unity, so we are united in our church and brotherhood.
- Colossians 3:14 tells us that above all things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. Love one another as Christ has loved the Church. No greater love has a man than to lay down his life for a friend. Christianity’s major principle is LOVE, where the ten were reduced to two then one by the Apostle.
- 2 Chr 30:12 – the Providential Hand of God – was on Judah, the house of Praise, to give them singleness of heart to obey the command of the king and the leaders at the word of the Lord. See Esther to understand that principle – Individuality (not split or forked tongue).
God is in the Constitution. This knowledge is important for every American (Christian or not) to apply Biblical principles of liberty to their inalienable rights of life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness, and living in this nation as a testimony of what God’s Word can do for a people (called a nation).
Our Constitution as a Christian governmental instrument is unique among the nations of the world; always been imitated but never achieved. Why? Because is it a Godly (God-honoring and believing document) that documents His principles of life in it and requires voluntary Christian self-government from its citizens. All power and force flow from the Godhead of the Trinity. That power preserves a nation and enables a nation to achieve the American Christian Dream of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness free of governmental interference.
Commemorating Constitution Week (which begins on Sunday, September 17) is important to America because it recognizes the value of and the success of a nation of free people whose rights and liberties are protected by a written constitution based on Biblical principles of government given to all of mankind by God who came to set the captives free. Biblical principles applied to life and living have consequences for all regardless of denominational loyalties.
President Ronald Reagan dedicated 1983 as the Year of the Bible in the U.S. of A. in Joint Congressional Resolutions Public Law 97-280 on October 4, 1982. The United States Congress acknowledged the magnificent impact of the Bible on the founding of our nation!
Perhaps through forgetfulness, our nation has taken a detour! Like Esther, we are here for “such a time as this.” We can write to our congresspersons and remind them of our nation’s Christian origins and history and encourage them to return, in principle, to that path. Perhaps with this knowledge, you can steer this nation back on course because of your love of liberty and its source. – the Lord of Nations!
May God continue to bless you, your families, and our nation.
Thank you for the time, Jerry!
